Weather Delays

Winter Weather Information

Announcements about operating status will be made:

  • Through Automated phone calls (robocalls)
  • On our official Royal School District social media accounts:
  • On the home page of our district website
  • On local news stations as available (TV and radio)

If bad weather conditions, unusual building circumstances, or other unforeseen activities occur during the night or day, there will be an announcement sent out through the communication platforms listed above. If there are no announcements, assume school is operating as usual. Any modifications to bus routes will be posted on the district website by 6:00 a.m. Remember to hit the “Refresh” button on your computer frequently for the most up-do-date information.

In the event of a school closure or delayed start, the district’s automated phone system will begin calling households by 6:15 a.m. The message alerts will show caller Id (844) 822-2201.  To receive text messages, please subscribe by texting "Y" to 67587.

For this purpose, it is important that your student’s school office has up-to-date contact information.

If you are unable to access our website or local radio/TV stations, please telephone the transportation office at (509) 346-2252. The office will have a recorded message for that day’s delay or closure.

Typical Operating Statuses During Inclement Weather:

  1. Business as Usual
    1. Classes are operating as regularly scheduled.
    2. No announcements will be made.
  2. 2-Hour Delay
    1. All schools will begin 2 hours later than their usual start time. For bus times, add 2 hours to the regular pick-up time. (For example, if your student normally gets picked up by the bus at 7:05 AM, a 2-hour delay will mean that your student will get picked up at 9:05 AM instead.)
    2. The District will communicate via automated phone calls, website, social media, and news stations.
  3. 3-Hour Delay
    1. All schools will begin 3 hours later than their usual start time. For bus times, add 3 hours to the regular pick-up time. (For example, if your student normally gets picked up by the bus at 7:05 AM, a 3-hour delay will mean that your student will get picked up at 10:05 AM instead.)
    2. The District will communicate via automated phone calls, website, social media, and news stations.
  4. Closed
    1. All schools and campuses are closed for the day.
    2. The District will communicate via automated phone calls, website, social media, and news stations.
    3. All athletic practices and games, school activities, meetings, and field trips are canceled for the day.

IMPORTANT

During inclement weather, we will leave the Transportation Center 15 minutes earlier in the morning to pick up students. If roads become un-passable, parents may be asked to bring students to a safer bus stop or directly to school until roads clear.  Drivers will instruct students regarding any time changes in bad weather.
