Over half of our school families took the time to respond to Royal School District’s 2024 Educational Effectiveness Survey – thank you for your participation! Your voices are being heard, and this is reflected in the positive feedback received in this year’s survey, conducted by the Center for Educational Effectiveness (CEE). Erich Bolz, CEE Vice-President, shared that he has never seen such positive results come back from a school district’s survey. “I have 56 clients and have never seen data come back like this,” Bolz said.

The Educational Effectiveness Survey studies the key “Characteristics of High Performing Schools” listed below. In every category, Royal School District ranks above the national average! ^

  1. Collaboration and Communication
  2. Clear and Shared Focus
  3. High Standards and Expectations
  4. Effective Leadership
  5. Supportive Learning Environment
  6. Parent and Community Involvement
  7. Monitoring of Teaching and Learning

Below are some quick highlights from the survey results, which can be viewed in full here.

Your Voices Are Being Heard:

  • The number of families participating in this survey continues to increase each year:
    • Since the survey was first administered in 2022, the number of Royal School District families participating has increased by over 300%!
    • According to Erich Bolz, CEE Vice-President, typical survey participation in other school districts is around 15-30%. Royal School District family participation was greater than 50%!

  • Family participation in the survey is representative of student demographics and school level:
    • Our Hispanic/Latino families and other demographic families' voices are being heard and are proportional to the student population.
    • Survey responses represent families of students across all grade levels, K-12.

  • There is evidence that your voices directly contribute to positive changes in schools.
    • Overall, in categories where family satisfaction went down in 2023, satisfaction went back up in 2024.
    • In examining past results, each school has developed specific goals related to ensuring students feel safe at school and that students enjoy coming to school. The improvement in those areas is directly related to the efforts at each school.

Overwhelmingly, Families are Highly Satisfied with their School District Across All 7 Categories Studied in the Survey.

  • The Survey shows that family satisfaction in all 7 categories is between 85% and 90%, and trending upward!
    • In all 7 categories studied, families feel more positively about their school district than the nationwide sample.
    • Over the past three years, satisfaction has also increased even as the number of families participating in the Survey has increased.

  • Families feel their school district provides a supportive learning environment.
    • Mr. Bolz was particularly struck by the high percentage of families who report that 'my student feels safe at school' and 'I believe adults in this school care about my student.' "This is very outstanding from my experience," says Mr. Bolz.

It is also noteworthy that agreement with the statement 'I am informed about progress toward the improvement goals of this school' has increased by 4%.

Your participation in this survey helps us know where to focus our efforts for improvement. Each year after receiving the CEE survey results, Royal principals work with their individual school building staff to review the data and identify areas of improvement that can be made. While our district is thrilled with such positive results, we know that there is always room for improvement and are eager to get to work in continuing to make Royal schools the best and most supportive environment for each and every student. Thank you for your continued support and partnership!
